Tenerife - the largest Canary Island

80km long, 50km wide, 906 854 inhabitants and a 3718m high volcano (Teide) – that's the Canary Island of Tenerife, which is in the middle of the Atlantic.

This volcanically active island is geographically closer to the coast of Morocco (250 km) than to the south coast of Spain (1300 kilometers), what the holidaymaker can feel in the enjoyable climate. Year-round, the weather is determined by spring-like temperatures that can rise to over 35 degrees in summer. However, there is no uniform climate. On a car trip across this "mini-continent" you will cross different weather conditions from the brightest sunshine in the south to a light rain in the north. Therefore sturdy shoes and a raincoat are always essential for the hiking trails around the Teide.

The largest Canary Island also carries numerous cultural treasures, e.g. the enigmatic Pyramids of Güimar. Historic towns (as La Laguna or La Orotava) are scattered across the Island as well as unique landscapes, e.g. the Teide (UNESCO World Heritage Site).

In addition, the only in Tenerife domestic plants are especially interesting for plant lovers. The Canarian dragon tree, various Euphorbiaceae, huge red poinsettias are just a few examples. They are to marvel at the great outdoors or in the at the botanical gardens in Puerto de la Cruz.
