La Matanza in the north of Tenerife - Holiday homes with a nice sea view
On about 500 metres above sea level at the northern coast of Tenerife and a former by the native Guanches bloodyly fighted for area - that is the little Canary community La Matanza de Acentejo.
In La Matanza de Acentejo a quiet and peaceful vacation can be spend in a cosy holiday apartment, a holiday house or a finca. Because: As a holiday guest you can design your vacation amongst inhabitants. Mass tourism like in the south of the island is not present here.
The surrounding area is still appreciated for its agriculture because of its fruitfulness. The cultivation of bananas, various kinds of wines (the red wine from La Matanza is one of the best on Tenerife), potatoes or tomatoes are only some examples. Therefore you should also use your vacation to try the typical Canary kitchen in one of the local restaurants. In the located supermarkets one however also finds the necessary things for a longer vacation stay.
Unfortunaltely there are no possibilities to swim in the sea in La Matanza. Only in some distance from here one can go swimming. Because of this reason a rental car is recommended. With a rental car you can explore the most remote corners of the biggest Canary Island. Eventually the evergreen and rich of vegetation north of Tenerife has a lot to offer.
Go swimming at the north coast of Tenerife at a volcanic black beach like at the Playa Jardin or at the Playa Bollullo (reachable in Puerto de la Cruz in 15 minutes with the rental car) or hike in the Anaga Mountains (45 minutes drive). In your vacation you should also explore the hiking routes at the Pico del Teide (ca. 40 km away and Spains highest mountain). Because of the well builded roads this should not be a problem. San Cristóbal de La Laguna (20 minutes drive) or La Orotava (15 minutes drive) are also located in a comfortable distance to La Matanza. The capital city of Tenerife - Santa Cruz can be reached in about half an hour. Who wants to go golfing during their vacation, can reach the Real Club de Golf de Tenerife (an 18-hole complex) from La Matanza in about 10 minutes by car.
With the rental car you easily get to the southern mass tourism centres of Los Cristianos or Las Américas from La Matanza (roughly one hour of driving).
To get to the southern airport you should also plan more than 60 driving minutes.
