Icod de los Vinos in the north of Tenerife - Holiday homes in an old town
Located in the evergreen north - that is Icod de los Vinos, a typical, rural, Canary town.
In Icod de los Vinos there is one of the most famous destinations of Tenerife - the Drago Milenario ("millenial dragon tree") - which is valued on an age of a bout 300 years in todays expert knowledge. Its trunk measures approximately 6 metres in average, which is indeed impressive to watch. Some relaxing hours can also be experienced in the dragon tree park, which is also located here.
Icod de los Vinos is also very suitable for holidays, because you can be part of and celebrate Canary feasts individually and away from mass tourism. Like for example a Tabla race at the feast of the holy San Andrés (30.11). During the Tabla race brave people race down the streets and are "caught" by a tyre heap at the end. Furthermore you should not miss the colorful carnival in your vacation.
The town itself (about 30 minutes away from Puerto de la Cruz by car) is well equipped for tourists. There are numerous restaurants with local and international dishes, bars and coffee shops. In Icod de los Vinos there are most likely individual tourists to meet. Because: Mostly day trippers are here to marvel at the dragon tree for some hours.
Beneath the town, very fast and easily reachable, there is the beach Playa San Marcos, a wonderful volcanic bathing bay cornered by rocks, also with attached gastronomy. A bit above as a holiday guest one can find a quiet idyll. Some holiday apartments, villas or fincas, which are partly used for the vine cultivation, but also for touristic rentals, are therefore very popular in this place.
The region is an ideal vacation destination for peace seakers, hikers, nature lovers or golfers (Buenavista Golf is located 18 kilometres away). If you want to do an island tour with the rental car, Icod de los Vinos is also the right place for you. But be prepared for serpentine roads and very changeable weather conditions.
The southern airport is reachable from Icod de los Vinos in about 80 minutes with the rental car.
By the way: Icod de los Vinos is well connected to the public bus transport network.
